This weapon was first produced by France in 1949 and was used by the French in SE Asia. They then were in turn used by the Viet Cong. The Vietnamese modified the weapon to fire the 7.62 mm X 25 ammunition. They increased the barrel length and added a 35 round magazine. On the back of the pistol grip can be seen the weapon safety. The safety was released by gripping the pistol grip. The Vietnamese modifications increased the rate of fire from 600 rpm to 900 rpm. It was considered to be simple and reliable.
